Cornices are primarily designed to disguise unsightly joints between your wall and ceiling sheeting. They are also intended to hide the gap left between plasterboard and timber framing that allows for expansion and contraction of the wood or metal. Without this, it could lead to the plasterboard cracking. The most common cornice profile we install in Cairns is the 75mm and 90mm cove paper-faced profile. If you fancy a unique classic or architectural look, we can assist you with the installation of a decorative cornice and cast ornamental cornice. Cornice installation is fast, neat, and beautifully complements our finished product.

In some cases, cornices can dislodge or become damaged over time. Ground movement and natural settling can occur resulting in minor cracks appearing in walls or cornices. Sheeting:

When installing plasterboard sheets, we always aim to ensure the best coverage and to minimise butt joints and waste. 

Setting:

When setting, we implement a three-coat system. All internal angles are jointed using paper tape. External corners are strengthened with perforated metal angles before they’re stapled and finished. And finally, to achieve a flatter finish and reduce surface buildup of base and finish coats, each jointing coat is widened so that the final coat on the finished joint is no less than 300mm wide. This provides the smoothest, most undetectable jointing system.

Sanding:

Our team utilise dust-free vacuum sanders to minimise mess whilst also providing the best quality finish. All joins are seamlessly blended into the surrounding surface to achieve the appearance of just one sheet. Manual sanding blocks are then used for internal corners, leaving them square and flush.

A bulkhead is a lower portion of the ceiling and is predominantly installed for functional reasons in unit blocks or multi-level homes. Their main purpose is to conceal plumbing, electrical and air conditioning services and to mask changes in ceiling heights. Gaining in popularity is the use of residential kitchen bulkheads also serving as decorative design features, in addition to defining the kitchen area in an open-plan setting. The installation of a fire-rated Gyprock system is particularly important in shared living construction such as multi-level and adjacent dual occupancy situations.
