PLASTERBOARD SHED LINING CAIRNS
PLASTERBOARD SHED LINING SERVICE IN CAIRNS
Line your shed with plasterboard and benefit with lower internal temperatures, noise reduction, and less dust and insect ingress
Sheds are a great place to store your vehicle, caravan, tools and treasured equipment.
But the problem is, the oppressive heat of a typical Cairns Summer means that entering your metal shed is akin to walking into a sauna with a jumper on! A great way to lose weight, sure, but a homeowner's shed should be no less comfortable to inhabit than the house, a comfortable place to work in or a place of leisure.
If you want to create a clean, custom look for your shed whilst also lowering its internal temperature considerably, then lining your shed walls and ceilings with plasterboard is the best option.
Plastering the inside of your shed will give it a clean finish that will last and look great for years. Combining that new interior lining with thermal insulation installed behind it, you have now created an inviting and comfortable space that will protect you from heat and humidity and is now a joy to spend time in.
Lining a shed with Gyprock and insulation is superior to primitive methods using plywood or foil sarking.

WHY CHOOSE US?
BENEFITS OF LINING YOUR SHED'S WALLS AND CEILINGS WITH PLASTERBOARD
There are numerous benefits to lining your shed walls and ceilings with Gyprock plasterboard. These include:
- A shed lining can help protect your belongings from the weather and pests.
- Lining a shed can make it easier to clean and maintain.
- Lining a shed can limit the amount of dust collecting on your belongings inside.
- A shed lining can improve the appearance of your shed.
- Lining a shed can add value to your property.
- Lining a shed can help keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the Summer.
- You can paint the walls and ceilings whatever colour you desire, even matching the colour scheme inside the house for continuity.
- Lining a shed can reduce the amount of noise entering a shed and limit the amount of noise leaving it (important if noisy construction or work activities are carried out inside).
- You'll benefit from a clean, modern appearance for your shed interior.
- After lining the interior of your metal shed, the lower internal temperature will help to keep your belongings protected from the stifling Cairns heat, increasing their usable life.
- It can also make the shed cooler inside, meaning appliances inside such as fridges and freezers become more energy-efficient because they don't have to work as hard.
- Lining your shed allows you to choose what type of insulation you would like to install behind. You can even select sound-deadening insulation further to limit noise in and out of the shed.
- Shed electrical wiring and fit-out costs are reduced as your electrician does not need to install wiring in a labour-intensive surface mounted conduit system.
- Electrical and plumbing fixtures and fittings can be installed more neatly in a lined shed instead of fixing lights, power points, switches, and taps to the metal studs only. You can now hide electrical wiring and plumbing pipes behind the wall and ceiling sheeting.
- Lining your shed makes it a versatile space. No longer are you confined to it being a hot metal storage box for tools or vehicles, but instead, a versatile space that you can use for gatherings, parties, showrooms or accommodation.
ONCE YOU LINE YOUR METAL SHED WITH PLASTERBOARD, IT'S NOW A VERSATILE SPACE AND CAN BE USED FOR:
- Parties and gatherings
- Sleeping and accommodation
- As a showroom
- An office or study
- A granny flat
WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO INSTALL GYPROCK IN A SHED?
First of all, it's paramount to determine what kind of interior lining would suit your shed best. You can make several choices, including the thickness of the plasterboard, the type of insulation installed behind, etc.
- Our process starts with an on-site consultation to determine your needs and preferences. We'll also take down the dimensions of the walls and ceilings in your shed, as well as take note of some installation specifics (such as whether additional wall and ceiling battens need to be installed) so we can tailor a solution that best suits it.
- Once we've established the correct type of lining required and the job specifics, we'll send you a free quote with no obligation so you can budget accordingly if necessary.
- Once we receive your approval, we will schedule the job as soon as possible.
- After receiving your approval, but before we commence work, we will arrange for the materials (plasterboard sheets, battens, fixings etc.) to be delivered to the site by the supplier.
- When it's time, we'll begin the installation and will ensure a high level of care is taken while working on-site at your property.
- When the interior lining of the shed has been completed, we will tidy up everything to ensure no mess is left behind and make sure you are delighted with the job before we go.
WHAT CAN DICTATE THE PRICE WHEN LINING YOUR SHED WITH GYPROCK?
Every shed's interior structure, customer's needs, expectations, and budget varies from job to job. That is why we offer free, no-obligation shed lining quotes to our customers in Cairns so that they can make an informed decision without any pressure.
We find out what you want and need and use our expertise to recommend the products and services that enable us to meet your needs in a timely, cost-effective manner.
We know that every cent counts when lining a small, confined space such as a metal shed, so we strive to keep our rates competitive and affordable for all of our customers in Cairns.
Some of the variables which can affect the price include:
- The thickness of the Gyprock desired (whether it be 10mm or 13mm).
- What distance is present between fixings (studs and battens), therefore dictating what specification of plasterboard to choose.
- Do additional ceiling battens or studs need to be installed to reduce spans between fixings?
- Will there be any wet areas in the shed, and should Blueboard or water-resistant Gyprock be installed?
- The square-metre area of the walls and ceilings.
- Is a suspended flat ceiling preferred, or will the ceiling sheets be installed on a raked ceiling?
- Will thermal insulation be required, and if so, what thickness and specification (R-value)?
- Is acoustic insulation required?
- Is electrical wiring or plumbing involved? If so, what level of additional labour is required to cut out around electrical and plumbing fitting penetrations?

DRAWBACKS OF LINING A SHED OR GARAGE WITH PLASTERBOARD
We're not here to sell you the benefits of lining your shed with plasterboard without mentioning the drawbacks. The only thing that compares to the benefits is cost; lining a shed with plasterboard is not cheap, and nor should it be. However, for a relatively minimal investment, you can get your metal shed interior looking like a million bucks! And don't forget that by doing so, you will save money in the long term by better protecting your equipment and tools inside with lower temperatures and dust ingress.
The installation of plasterboard walls and ceilings in your shed does involve some more manual labour than some other types of lining options, but the results are well worth the effort.
Some of these drawbacks include:
- A quality plasterboard installation requires a lot of manual labour and attention to detail (and, as such, is more expensive).
- Gyprock installation products can be more expensive than rudimentary lining products such as MDF, chipboard or plywood.
- Plasterboard is a soft material and not as durable as metal or wood, so it is more prone to damage by tools and equipment in the shed. If you carry out a lot of construction work inside your garage or shed, perhaps lining it with plasterboard is not the best decision.
- The plasterboard can be damaged by water ingress into the shed.
- Plasterboard provides some insulation, but for optimal thermal benefits, you should also install thermal insulation or batts behind.
- After the plasterboard is installed, additional work and time is required to undercoat the new lining and apply two coats of paint. Consider these additional costs when you're budgeting.
- Once the shed is lined, adding to or modifying an electrical or plumbing installation cannot be done without removing the sheeting or settling for surface mounted electrical or plumbing systems.
BEFORE LINING YOUR SHED WITH PLASTERBOARD, BE SURE TO CONSIDER THESE THINGS:
Like anything, follow the five P's: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance - so stop and think about what you ultimately wish to achieve with your shed lining project before you even start contacting any tradesmen.
- Do you want lights, light switches, ceiling fans and power points inside your shed? Where will your workbench be? Make sure you have power points above your workbench and lighting above. Will you use a welder, and what are its electrical requirements. Plan your shed's electrical installation thoroughly with your local electrician well before any plasterboard is installed.
- Do you want a phone line or internet to be run into your garage or shed? If so, plan accordingly with your electrician prior as well. Have a conduit for this wiring installed before the concrete slab is poured to ensure no visible conduit or wiring outside the shed.
- Do you want running water, a sink, bathroom or toilet inside your shed? Where will these items be located? Communicate with your local plumber in advance.
- Is a comfortable internal temperature in your shed of high importance, and therefore do you require thermal insulation to be installed?
Planning is imperative before bringing any tradesmen to your property. We raise the points mentioned above because once you line the ceilings and walls of a shed, it's impossible to make electrical or plumbing changes later without removing the sheeting or without substantial additional costs. Once it's done, it's done.
